Is Organic Milk Healthier?

Got milk?

We’ve talked about the differences in organic vs. conventional foods, and that people often mistakenly assume that organic means healthy. It doesn’t. You can find organic variations of almost any food - and it’s not an indication of calories, fat, sodium, etc.

Moreover, numerous studies have found that organic produce doesn’t contain any increases in vitamins or nutrients. And the consumption of organic foods doesn’t change a person’s risk of disease or illness - including cancer.

Because organic foods are grown in a more eco-friendly manner, this is the true motivation for buying organic. Even if it doesn’t benefit your human body, organic products benefit your extended body… this planet.

But what about organic milk? What does the research show?

A European Union-funded study by Newcastle University compared 22 milk brands sold in supermarkets. After crunching the data, researchers found that organic milk had lower levels of saturated fat and increased levels of beneficial fatty acids. In fact, the study’s lead researcher noted that individuals could cut saturated fats in milk by 30% - 50% simply by opting for organic.

Why? The cows that produce organic milk have diets richer in grass - whereas conventional cows typically have access to grass during summer months (if at all). Conventional cows typically consume grain and supplements. Other studies have verified the link between grass-fed cows and healthier milk.

While many people avoid milk in their diets altogether, the research does suggest that switching to organic milk is a smart way to cut saturated fats and increase your intake of desirable fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants.

  1. Have to comment on two points here.
One is correct the other is not.

But first let me say that the statement,
“people often mistakenly assume that organic means healthy. It doesn’t.” is very true!

    In regards to,
“numerous studies have found that organic produce doesn’t contain any increases in vitamins or nutrients. And the consumption of organic foods doesn’t change a person’s risk of disease or illness”

is not factual, and as we all know, there are conflicting studies. I can go in great detail on how/ why, but can assure you as a natural health practitioner and seeing my clients improve, and also understanding the process of both commercial and organic farming, that organic for many reasons provides the body with what it needs and keeps the “bad” stuff out.

    As far as,
“researchers found that organic milk had lower levels of saturated fat and increased levels of beneficial fatty acids. In fact, the study’s lead researcher noted that individuals could cut saturated fats in milk by 30% – 50% simply by opting for organic”

is true, and there is so much more, look up the “milk cure” with many Dr’s curing people by having them fast on milk - yet, commercial PASTEURIZED, HOMOGINIZED, is NOT the same and an actually cause disease. One needs to find raw UNpasteurized from organic farms to receive the benefits. All proponents against milk are talking about the effects of commercial milk.

JUST BECAUSE IT’S LABELED ORGANIC milk, doesn’t mean it’s UNpasteurized and NON-Homoginzed - cause it normally is. Hope this helps, any questions let me know.

  2. Save yourself from disease and do not get unpasteurized milk. Milk straight from the cow is full of bacteria that can cause havoc to you.

    • That same bacteria that you speak so poorly of is not bad, it is phenomenally good and what we use as health practitioners to help people recover their bone density, improve digestion, immune, etc.

Again, just look up “milk cure” and many dr’s in past speak of it’s results. A baby thrives on it.

It’s all about quality, and source.

Just think of how body builders do on Whey Protein, that comes from Milk - but again Raw Grass-Fed !!

      • As a natural health practitioner, you are NOT an actual doctor. So excuse us if we actually listen to medical facts and biology rather than your own personal experiences.

        • Jono, I understand your mindset. There is no black and white, natural or medical views, that’s simplistic. My experience comes from not only the Academy I attended, my 16 years of experience dealing with patients that were referred from places such as Cancer centers throughout the country, Mayo & Cleveland Clinic, many Health Centers in North America and Internationally as well and the results I can obtain with them when all other doctors have failed them, including natural practitioners. Also the scientific information we receive and share at Conferences that are attended by both the medical and natural sides of medicine and it’s truly about integrative medicine. There are many that have practiced for decades and retiring sharing their insights and what works with us. My learning curve has been incredible and I don’t take it for granted and just want to give back. I Don’t like anyone discounting scientifically validated facts and dismiss the very thing that can heal them. Also many natural health practitioners are Doctors, there are different type of doctorate degrees. Do they get training and degrees where they are challenged with restoring the patient or leave them dependent on chemicals/ drugs for life? or those who have a greater understanding of the body and how to fully restore one’s health the majority of times 😉 It’s all about results! How to achieve the balance.

  3. So, the main reason that there is a difference is exactly as you stated: grass vs. grain. Cows have a crazy awesome digestive system (called a rumen) that breaks down the cellulose in grass and converts it into proteins and carbohydrates. As a result, cow rumens are naturally fairly PH balanced.
Adding in corn and other grains that cows don’t naturally eat upsets the balance of the stomach. Additionally, cows can’t actually process grains very well which means that every cow fed primarily grains are also fed enzymes to help break down their feed.
Additionally, the process causes the rumen to become acidic, which in turn kills many of the beneficial bacteria in their rumen. With this process, antibiotics are then necessary in order to keep the animal healthy as much of its natural gut flora has been diminished to the point where it is barely functioning. While cows can process food this way, many feedlot cows develop ulcers in the rumen as well as massive liver problems given that there are so many supplements floating around in their system that they can’t process them correctly.
That said, grass-fed cows grow slower so it is less efficient. Overall, though, I’d much rather take slightly inefficient and be eating/drinking from a healthy animal than partaking in a feedlot-fattened health problem.

  4. Not a big fan of milk, but if that boy wants, I will donate all my milk if I can pour it on him!!! Very handsome model!

  5. What about the difference between milk (both regular and organic) vs. Soy milks and the other varieties like rice milk, almond milk etc.? Are there more health benefits to switching to those than from switching from regular fat-free milk to an organic milk from cows?

  6. They are truly no substitutes for raw grass-fed milk, you will NOT get the same results from soy or rice, and they do not constitute a complete protein on their own.

Furthermore, soy has many issues with the way it is processed- can create toxins and lower thyroid, upset digestion/ elimination predispose people to cancer depending on how it’s prepared. Soy Milk is not as bad as most soy products, only the fermented soy as Tofu is acceptable to include in diet w/ my clients.

As far as rice milk I may sometimes recommend in moderation for certain situations but testing has found that it is normally very high in Flouride as are the soy liquid products.

That opens up more discussion and research on the harm vs the false benefit claimed of Flouride - I’ll just say this. In it’s toxicity, Flouride is between Lead and Arsenic. Would you put a little Lead or Arsenic in your drinking water or teeth? Enough Said, (as far as how much I can elaborate here) plenty of info on that one though.

Avoid blind faith and do your own due diligence to Safeguard your health. If the author, Davey wants me to have Question & Answer to help his fans, let me know - it can make all the difference in the world with body. Some of my clients haven’t changed a thing at the gym as far as how they work out and what they do, but once support body properly - finally get the results from the same routines they’ve been always doing !! Good Luck Guys.

    • Cool, thanks for the info Mike G., and thanks Davey Wavey for the article. I was just thinking this morning about doing a switch from milk to soy but I think I’m gonna go organic and pay attention to what I decide to go with. Definitely looking for something cruelty free. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  7. While your on the topic of organic dairy,
why not continue with the benefits of whey,
incredible for the body and those looking to get a nice refined, tight, toned body.

Also, benefits of whole eggs, NOT whites (myth)

    Dispelling Low-Fat (myth)

    Google - Sea Salt Cures
we were born in a womb that contains saline solution,
it’s our electrolytes and all bodily fluids are saline and require the salt. Low-Salt myth…

    there’s so much.

How about “grounding” google Dr. Sinatra and going barefoot. Not only ground out the “bad” charges with body, but absorb the energy of the earth that energizes and balances us - Hz frequency/ vibration. Can break glass with a frequency, kill infections, and tune up brain and strengthen bod w/ others.

  8. Great post as usual Davey, but one thing that’s important to note is that saturated fat has a “bum rap” as a bad fat — it isn’t ! Your body NEEDS saturated fat and in fact it helps lubricate the brain, our biggest sex organ 🙂 Everything in moderation.

That said, it’s a “no brainer” to support your local organic farms. They are giving us healthier, sustainable choices.

  9. christopher says:

organic=grass fed—-conventional=grain fed.grain fed could possibly contain GMO.organic-whether dairy cow-or beef cattle-prefered and healthier choice over grain fed.it also reflects in the price.if you can afford to eat organic three meals per day-and say shop at Whole Foods exclusively-then-i want to marry you—Will You Marry Me?

  10. Mike Williams says:

Nutrition is not rocket science… Keep it simple, keep it natural (organic), avoid processed foods of any kind (including rice and soy milk, pastas, non grained refined breads (including wheat breads), it is a refined and processed product not found in nature in this form. Shop the outskirts of your supermarket and avoid the interrior sections of frozen meals and pre packaged products (not including frozen vegetables). It is a wasteland of bad carbs, high fructose corn syrup, high sodium, saturated trans-fats, amongst many other destructive agents to good health… Keep to organic foods that are found on the farm (pretend your Amish).

  11. Well, organic has more nuritents because… oh great photo makes me want to drink some milk.

  12. By going organic/green means that you will use organic products that do not have chemical additives. Your products will use ingredients that your body will be able to absorb and not suffocate your body.

  13. Impressive blog posts and type of article writing.

I think I’ll come back on this website later to see just what else you
could have available! 😉 So i’m heading to see if my husband and I can come across almost anything on the topic of milk!!

  14. Hi there to every single one, it’s genuinely a nice for me to pay a quick visit this web site, it contains important Information.
