27 Fast Food Items with 1,000 Calories or More.

War-on-fast-food-006The thing about calories is that they tend to add up.

We know that a calorie deficit is required for losing weight - which means that you take in fewer calories than you burn. For those of us looking to maintain our current weight, we need to be in a calorie neutral state where we’re consuming the same number of calories that we burn.

Regardless, counting calories means being very mindful of the foods we consume and avoiding the calorie bombs on many fast food menus. Case in point, the below infographic shows 27 different fast food items with more than 1,000 calories - including a nearly 10,000 calorie burger and a 2,140 calorie order of cheese fries.

Are any of your favorites on this list? Any surprises?

  1. I don’t know about you, but I don’t consider Outback Steakhouse to be “fast food”. That nitpick aside though, that is a ridiculous amount of calories for fries.

  2. I work at Five Guys and people come in and look at the calories and are terrified to order.

Me being a health conscious person, I always tell them they can order their burger without a bun and get it wrapped in Lettuce, or we can put it in a bowl, with their toppings on the side.

I also recommend to them if they are trying to steer away from the high calories but still want the burger/dog/fries etc:

    1) Don’t get the grilled cheese. It is our bun, and instead of butter, it is mayonnaise slopped onto both sides with 2 slices of cheese in the middle. It is really dense.

    2) Get what you want, burger/dog/veggies, just exclude the bun. The bun is the bulk of the calories and carbs.

*Since I work there, food is free, so I bring a 100 calorie whole wheat bread and throw veggies on it. Boom. Lunch*

3)Now offering a Little French Fry, I recommend them to get that… it is still a lot but it isn’t as much as the regular fry.

  3. I doubt whether many people who eat this stuff read your blog. Especially those found at the Heart Attack Grill.

    This could only in America..

  5. Canada has not been infiltrated by most of these evil EVIL chains yet and I’m SO happy for that.
